Obviously, even if a synagogue isn't open in Tel Aviv, the clubs never close. Last night we went to a bar, which was holding a program for the 'buddy system' and Tel Aviv University. In the buddy system, students in our program will soon be paired up with israelis at the university, so that we can learn all about israel, hang out wiht israelis, and get to know the people and place so much better. I can't wait. The night at the bar was a segway to the program...it was so much fun because almost everyone from OSP was there, and so were a lot of Israelis studying at the university. I met this one guy serving the army who told me his best friend was killed last week, and it was his first night going out since. It was just so hard to hear that, because he was my age and I know I've never had to deal with anything like that. After the bar we had the taxi driver stop at Mcdonald's! I asked the guy working there if it was kosher, and he goes 'of course not, it's friday and we're open!' haha. Oh, also on the way to the bar, I'm proud to say I had a good conversation with the taxi driver in hebrew about the best way to get from tel aviv from jerusalem, bus or taxi, whats cheaper (he said bus) and where to pick up the bus...what days it runs, what time...i was so proud of myself!
MR. POT! |
Today is Saturday, Shabbat (which has no significance in Tel Aviv). Becca and I went for a walk, trying to find a park near the school. We never found it, and on the way some guy told us if we get in his car he'll take us there...of course we didn't go haha...however, as we got lost, we managed to find the city bus station, which was good. We also found a pot lying on the side of the road. Becca and I needed a pot for the room, so we were gonna take it...but we decided it was too desperate haha.
Tonight we had a little dinner party and we cooked pasta....stirfry...eggs..we definetely need to go to the shuk. So tomorrow after our first day of Ulpan..(YAY HEBREW SCHOOL!) we're gonna go and get more stuff!
